Self-organized criticality
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the concept of the self-organized criticality (SOC) and its application to a wide range of scientific problems with very different backgrounds. In particular, we discuss the Bak-TangWiesenfeld sandpile model which displays SOC behavior and by computing the critical exponent for the two-dimensional model we find the agreement with the known result. Finally, we provide a new example of Zipf’s law and discuss the connection of power-laws found in nature to the SOC phenomenon.

Mapping Self-Organized Criticality onto Criticality
We present a general conceptual framework for self-organized criticality (SOC), based on the recognition that it is nothing but the expression, "unfolded" m a suitable
متن کاملSandpile Models of Self-Organized Criticality
Self-Organized Criticality is the emergence of long-ranged spatio-temporal correlations in nonequilibrium steady states of slowly driven systems without fine tuning of any control parameter. Sandpiles were proposed as prototypical examples of self-organized criticality. However, only some of the laboratory experiments looking for the evidence of criticality in sandpiles have reported a positive...

A combination of spectral and moments analysis of the continuous X-ray flux data is used to show consistency of statistical properties of the powerful solar flares with 2D BTW prototype model of self-organized criticality.
متن کامل1/f like noise and self organized criticality
In this paper, the concept of ubiquitous 1/f like noise and the idea of self organized criticality as the explanation are introduced using simple models. Both theoretical and experimental investigations are discussed to further explore the concept of SOC and test its validity. Ubiquity of 1/f like noise
